DuBois cruises to victory
Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois secured a second term last night with a decisive rout of upstart Republican Tom Carton in the GOP primary.
A win had been all but certain for DuBois, who has spent the past four years reforming the oft-criticized sheriff’s office and raising its profile. The retired Middletown police lieutenant was launched into office with a primary win over former Sheriff Frank Bigger in 2002.
This year, fellow Republican Tom Carton, a retired New York City police sergeant from Monroe, attempted to turn the tables on DuBois. But Carton, 45, lacked political support.
