DuBois easily defeats Carton
Goshen – Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois easily defeated Republican challenger Thomas Carton in a GOP primary last night. DuBois beat the retired NYPD sergeant by a more than two-to-one margin.
There is no other candidate seeking the top cop job so DuBois will appear on the November ballot unopposed.
He credits his political success to professionalism that he brought to the sheriff’s department during his first four years in office.
“Through the team effort of everybody here, from the county executive to the county legislature, we have restored that trust,” he said. “Without restoring that foundation of trust, we would not have been able to make such progress. We have many more goals in store for the next four years. For you, the team, thank you for allowing us to continue.”
During the primary campaign, Carton accused DuBois of running the department in an unprofessional manner.
