Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois was the clear choice of his fellow Republicans at Wednesday night’s nominating convention. Democrats, also meeting to select candidates, chose not to endorse anyone for sheriff.
Republican former NYPD sergeant Thomas Carton wants to challenge DuBois in a primary. He expected to lose the party endorsement. He plans to continue with his effort to capture the GOP line in a September primary.
He had been wooing Democrats in hopes of securing that line in November; however, Democrat committee members were split on his nomination and in the end, chose not to back him.
Carton had said he would stop in at both party conventions; he was at the GOP session.
