State, federal and local public officials Sunday came out to endorse Republican Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois, who announced he would seek a second term in office this November.
While the backing of several politicians carries weight among voters, perhaps the more meaningful endorsements came from his colleagues in law enforcement.
Sheriffs from Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Sullivan counties attended his announcement event to lend their support.
“The mark of a sheriff, the mark of a police chief, the mark of a law enforcement commander, is his ability to protect the people and to do so with all those who serve and protect,” said Rockland County Sheriff James Kralik.
DuBois told the packed room at the Harness Racing Museum in Goshen that he will run on his record. “Three years ago when I sought this job, we talked about restoring honesty and integrity to the sheriff’s office,” he said. “Today I can look you in the eye and say we have.”
DuBois defeated long time fellow Republican Sheriff Frank Bigger in a primary, in his first race. This fall DuBois faces a GOP primary challenge from Thomas Carton, an NYPD sergeant who announced his intentions earlier this month.
