MidHudsonNews.com

Port Jervis Police in conjunction with the State Police Mid-Hudson Drug Task Force arrested a Port Jervis man on several counts of criminal sale of controlled substances. Jamel Gibbs, 31, was arrested following months of undercover surveillance and sales to undercover police officers, Police Chief Craig Cherry said.

Police arrested Gibbs in a vehicle stop in the city and also executed a search warrant on his apartment on Ball Street.

"Gibbs was a significant player in bringing crack/cocaine into Port Jervis,” Cherry said. “He was a very busy operator, and we are relieved to get him off the street."  Recovered as a result of the arrest were drug paraphernalia, scales, packaging equipment and approximately $1,800 in cash. A 1998 Lincoln Navigator was impounded.

Gibbs is the fifth subject to be arrested in the city this past several weeks as the result Port Jervis Police working with Orange County Sheriff and State Police Narcotics Units.

Also, arrested was Barbara Tompkins, 30, who lives with Gibbs. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Tompkins has two previous drug arrest convictions.

Meanwhile, Port Jervis Police and the Orange County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit also arrested Jamel Williams, 17, known as "Smells", and charged him with several counts each of third degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance, Class B felonies, and several counts of criminal sale of marijuana in the fourth degree, class A misdemeanors.

Police allege that Williams was selling cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana from the West End Section of the city, specifically the area of West Main Street and Coleman Street, over the past several months, to several undercover police officers.

Williams was arraigned in Port Jervis City Court remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail pending court proceedings.
