Press Release

October 15, 2005

Event is fundraiser for deputy's son

Times Herald-Record

There will be a flea market, craft fair and classic car show from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. tomorrow at Orange County Park on Route 416 in Campbell Hall. It will benefit the David Curtis Heart/Lung Transplant Fund.

The event, with music by DJ Allen and lots of activities for children, is fully endorsed by Sheriff Carl DuBois and has been organized by members of his office to help one of their own. They need community support.

Dave Curtis, 34, is the son of Deputy Mike Curtis, a member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office for 16 years. Dave was born with Phocomelia Syndrome, a birth defect that includes characteristic deficient limb development and congenital heart defects.

"Despite challenges, Dave has led an active life," said DuBois. "His medical team, however, has told him that to survive he will soon need a heart and double lung transplant. Uninsured costs will exceed $150,000 plus post-operative medication and care."

Tomorrow's event, which welcomes vendors and participants, shows that others care.
