Times Herald-Record
On two recent evenings this month, the Orange County Jail was busier than usual as more than a dozen youths were fingerprinted. Everything was orderly. The youths hadn't broken laws and weren't suspected of any wrongdoing. They were members of Goshen Boy Scout Troop 66 who were working on merit badges in fingerprinting. They were joined by Scoutmaster Mike Grady.
Their attendance was part of an ongoing merit badge program offered by Sheriff Carl DuBois, who welcomes Scouts for fingerprinting sessions two or three times a year. And he makes the event more memorable by including members of his staff to share information on their specialties.
Sgt. Paul Arteta and Investigator Brian Manning conducted the fingerprinting workshops. Afterward, Undersheriff Ken Jones spoke on his experiences as a forensic identification technician with the New York State Police, and K-9 Deputy Justin Butterfield and his trained dog, Faro, gave a demonstration.
