Few may know this, but Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois' connection with the nation's first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, goes far beyond the Emancipation Proclamation scene posted on his office wall.
DuBois is a lifelong Civil War buff. And his favorite flick (ironically enough for a lawman) is "The Outlaw Josey Wales," which stars Clint Eastwood and is set at the end of the so-called "War of Northern Aggression."
DuBois may have taken his Lincoln interest to the extreme though when he married his wife, Barbara. After all, her father, William Henry Fitzgerald, is a direct descendant of William Henry Seward, the Village of Florida's most famous resident and Lincoln's secretary of state.
To top it off: Thursday is Lincoln's birthday. It's also DuBois'. He'll be 50.
