Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois patted a handful of correction officers on the back for their accomplishments over the past 12 months.
DuBois nominated Sgt. Daniel Persell and Correction Officer Thomas Hefferon for the New York State Sheriff's Association's "Officer of the Year." The sheriff credited the pair for exceptional dedication in their work with the office's Gang Intelligence Unit.
Correction Officer Kevin Kearney was also nominated for rescuing a driver from an overturned truck during a snowstorm Dec. 4.
DuBois also picked retired Chief H. Thomas McDonald for the office's Carl Draxler Award. McDonald worked various command posts at the sheriff's office between 1979-99. Since January, he's served as an adviser to the sheriff.
