The Orange County Conservative Committee endorsed Republican sheriff
challenger Carl DuBois as their party's candidate in the November
election. DuBois will face incumbent Sheriff Frank Bigger in the
September primary.
John Whiffen is the Democrat candidate for sheriff.
County Conservative Chairman John DeLessio said the members felt
DuBois was best for the job. "The over all opinion was that his
qualifications were there and that a change was needed," he said.
DeLessio said Bigger's problems that were highlighted in a highly
critical report last year were part of the discussion of the
committee.
The Conservative Committee endorsed incumbent Donald Parker and
Thomas Murray for county coroner. While Democrats have no
candidates, the Republicans endorsed Murray and Patrick Berardinelli,
Jr.
The Conservatives also endorsed Republican Senator John Bonacic, and
for Assembly, Republicans Howard Mills and Thomas Kirwan and
Democrat Jacob Gunther.
Other endorsements are pending.
