Press Release
Two state police unions back DuBois for Orange County sheriff
Two unions representing members of the State Police yesterday endorsed Carl DuBois for
Orange County sheriff. DuBois will challenge incumbent Frank
Bigger in a Republican primary and the winner will face Democrat
John Whiffen.
Kenneth Jones, secretary-treasurer
of the State Police Investigators Association, said they believe
DuBois is "head and shoulders" above the other candidates. Jones
said in the case of Whiffen, "we don't believe that he has the depth
of experience necessary to qualify for the office." In the case of
Bigger, "we believe that the constant turmoil that's coming out of
the office and has come out of the office for quite some time has
impacted his ability to be sheriff."
DuBois, meanwhile, said the endorsement by the investigators union
and by the PBA of the New York State Troopers will bolster his
campaign. "They believe in my platform of accountability, integrity,
professionalism, service to the people."
Both the Orange County Democratic and Republican nominating
conventions will be held tomorrow night.
