Accomplishments

  • Recalled all courtesy badges and credentials issued by previous Sheriff’s and ended the tradition of issuing badges to non-police personnel.

  • Agency participation in the Zone 4 Counter Terrorism Committee, Sheriff DuBois. Co-Chair 2004-2005.

  • Awarded Law Enforcement Accreditation by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Accreditation ensures that the agency is governed by Rules & Regulations, and Policies & Procedures that meet the high standards of DCJS.

  • Utilizing vacant space within Correctional Facility to board inmates from other counties facing jail overcrowding. Boarder Revenue Program has grossed over $8 million for Orange County since September 2003.

  • Applied and awarded DCJS Grant for Regional LiveScan for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Wallkill, Town of Newburgh, Town of New Windsor, Town of Woodbury, and City of Port Jervis. LiveScan Technology will scan and digitize fingerprints of arrestees for data storage and immediate return of criminal history.

  • Awarded grant for Operation Safe Child, DCJS funded program that supplied a laptop computer/digital camera/scanner/printer system to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to photograph, fingerprint, and record vital information to be contained on youth ID card issued to parents.

  • Developed interactive, comprehensive computer payroll spreadsheet program that records payroll detail from employee input, that calculates and makes available for on-line tracking and review of regular hours, overtime hours, regular dollars, overtime dollars per employee, and totals per incident or assignment.

  • Sponsor and participate with Orange County Youth Bureau Gang Training Seminars and participate in the Orange County Gang Task Force.

  • Consolidated the Deputy Sheriffs and Correction Officers to form the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit. This highly trained unit responds to emergency situations as requested by outside police agencies as well as inside the Orange County Jail.

  • Conducted a complete audit of all financial accounts within the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and set up a program to have monthly audits conducted and independent audits from the County Finance Dept.

  • Developed a working relationship with the NYSP Violent Felony Warrant Squad for fugitive recovery and warrant execution.

  • Developed a working relationship with the New York State Department of Correctional Services to transport prisoners back to Orange County for court appearances, eliminating costly, individual transports by Orange County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

  • Deployment of personnel to the Mid Hudson Drug Enforcement Task Force, working with federal, state, and local narcotics enforcement and asset seizures.

  • Created Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Unit, which includes All-Terrain Vehicles, Four Wheel Drive Vehicles, Portable Generators and Light Towers for search, rescue, and other emergency situations.

  • Participate in Operation Impact a crime fighting strategy implemented in the City of Newburgh. (Street Level Narcotics Reduction Initiative, Street Level Demand Reduction Initiative and Operation Cease-fire).

  • Applied for and received the following funded grants:

    • Homeland Security - Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program
    • Thermal Imaging Grant
    • Crime Suppression Initiative Grant
    • Automatic External Defibrillator Grant

  • New York State Senate Funding:
    • Senator Larkin - $81,000 for Narcotics Enforcement
    • Senator Morahan – $40,000 for Surveillance Vehicles
    • Senator Bonacic - $25,000 for Correction Officer Protective Slash Vests
